Planes, Grains, and Saws with Chains

Tree to Table

Do you have a tree that holds sentimental value, but has reached the end of its life and needs to be cut down? Depending on the size, species, and shape of the tree, you may be able to turn it into something lasting that you can enjoy in your everyday life.

You must arrange for the tree to be felled, in accordance with your local laws/ordinances. I am not licensed for and do not provide tree felling services. However, once it has been cut down, I can work with you to turn it into wood for a special project.

I offer on-site milling, by chainsaw. While this means milling is slower than a sawmill, it does allow for me to mill in locations where even a mobile sawmill would be a hassle. This is ideal for urban logging. I will ask about the history of the tree to try to prevent any issues that may arise from embedded metal (i.e., fence posts, bolts, screws, and nails).

Current rates are a $50 fee plus $60/hr to mill. Discounts available for a share of the wood depending on species, size, and my current wood stocks. Customer must arrange for their own storage solution while the wood dries. For unique trees, I am willing to dry the wood on your behalf, but be aware that this process takes 1 year or more (depending on thickness) as I use a combination of air drying and a small solar kiln. Please contact me to discuss the details of this process, which involves an initial cost to transport the wood and a significant investment of time.
